Pawnee women and girls gathered many kinds of food from plants that grew on the prairie.
These included milkweed pods, sunflower seeds, wild nuts, and berries. Along streams or in marshy places they found roots of yellow lotus, cattail, wild onions, and sweet flag. They also gathered chokecherries, wild plums, wild grapes, sand cherries, wild potatoes, turnips, and turkey peas.
The Pawnee boys and girls wore clothes made out of skins of mostly buffalo. Men and boys wore breech clothes, leggings and moccasins. Girls and women wore dresses and leggings. They decorated their clothes with beads and porcupine quills. Both men and women pierced their ears and their earrings were made out of beads.
